Sweet Homes plans Dh2b investment

Dubai: Property developer Sweet Homes has announced plans to invest Dh2 billion in high-profile residential, commercial and mixed-use developments in 2008.

As part of the developer's expansion in the Dh2.4 trillion Middle East real estate market, it has also announced plans to launch new developments in the other emirates of the UAE, in Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and in other parts of GCC.

The move follows the recent launch of the Dh2.5 billion Ajman Uptown project, the first freehold villa and townhouse community in Ajman.

With a current project portfolio valued at Dh3.5 billion, including its two primary projects in Ajman - Rainbow Towers and Ajman Uptown, Sweet Homes has identified the emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi as key markets to penetrate within the first phase of its regional expansion plans.

Following the first phase of investment, Sweet Homes will be embarking on a region-wide expansion plan.

"The Middle East presents an array of opportunities in the real estate market, which has attracted an influx of local, regional, and international developers all vying to establish their mark in the market," said Fahad Sattar Dero, CEO of Sweet Homes Group.

"With our success in the property development arena in the UAE reaching new heights, the next step for us is to seek more prospects in the regional market by launching unique projects through highly localised marketing plans," he said.

Progress on housing projects for Dubai citizens satisfactory

DUBAI -- Khalfan Ahmed Hareb, board chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment (MBRHE), went on an inspection tour of a number of housing projects being executed in various parts of Dubai by the organisation.

The inspection covered areas like the Al Warqa villas project, Oud Al-Mutainah and Miz-har.

The officials had first-hand information about the progress of work on the various housing projects. Some of the projects have been completed while others are at various stages of completion.

Hareb urged the contractors in charge of the projects to stick to the timetable set for the completion so that the MBRHE could distribute the houses to those who deserve them on time.

The Al Warqa villa project consists of 544 villas. Phase 1 of the project, which is estimated to cost Dh600 million, will be completed by the end of this year. The Oud Al Mutainah project consists of 950 villas in addition to a government housing complex.

"The MBRHE has undertaken these housing projects to put into action the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, of providing comfortable housing facilities to the citizens of Dubai," Hareb said.

He expressed satisfaction at the progress of work at the projects, which, he said, aimed at providing modern housing facilities and ensuring family stability for the citizens of Dubai.

Deutsche Messe, organisers of the annual exhibition, announced yesterday that it has already sold 75 per cent of the exhibition space for the upcoming edition, which underlines the popularity and significance of this event in the region. "The unprecedented boom in the construction industry has been one of the key factors that have propelled demand for floor coverings in the region, which in turn has significantly amplified the scope for premier international exhibitions like DOMOTEX Middle East," said Angela Schaschen, Managing Director, Deutsche Messe Dubai Branch.

The second DOMOTEX Middle East trade fair held in June this year witnessed double digit growth in exhibitor participation and visitor turnout, with 269 exhibitors from 37 countries showcasing their products to more than 6,300 trade visitors from 92 countries.

The exhibition will feature a full range of handmade and machine-made carpets, textile and resilient floor coverings, parquet and wooden flooring, laminates, sports arena flooring, fibres, yarns and textiles, cleaning and application technologies, ceramic tiles, and natural stone and marble floorings.

The trade fair is targeted at wholesalers and retailers of floor coverings, decision makers in the contracting business, planners, architects, interior designers, construction companies, project planners, floor fitters and other skilled workers from the sector.

Realty projects worth Dh350bn in Abu Dhabi

Real estate companies in the UAE capital have announced property projects worth more than Dh350 billion since 2005 when the emirate opened up its property sector.According to Antoine Georges, Director of Dome Exhibitions, the organisers of Abu Dhabi Real Estate and Investment Show (IREIS 2008), the city's real estate and property market is expected to achieve rapid and significant growth in the coming years.

Citing the projections of "Plan Abu Dhabi 2030" unveiled by the Government of Abu Dhabi, he said the city's population will cross three million in about 25 years. "With this growth in population, coupled with the emirate's dynamic economic growth that is under way, the search for housing and commercial solutions for the future will certainly result in a booming real estate market in the foreseeable future," he added.

Major master-planned property projects unveiled in Abu Dhabi include Reem Island (Dh35 billion), Saadiyat Island (Dh100 billion), the Al Raha Beach Development (Dh54 billion) and Danet Abu Dhabi (Dh34 billion).

IREIS 2007, held this year, had 52 exhibitors taking part occupying an area of more than 6,500sqm. This marked a 100 per cent increase over exhibit space from the 2006 edition.
